FLOTUS no longer wears fur and her inspiration has come from an unexpected PETA supporter.
Melania Trump is no stranger to the clothing industry and all of the celebrities that frequent its fashion circles. Yet, many American's never thought Melania's fashion ties would link her with former Playboy Playmate, Pamela Anderson.
Anderson is back in the spotlight after she sent a faux fur coat to FLOTUS with a message asking her to help promote animal friendly style trends. Melania, who has worn fur in the past, was moved by the gesture and responded with a letter thanking Pamela for her "encouraging words" and vegan gift.
Pamela shared the thank you letter via her twitter account and credited FLOTUS for maintaining the office with such "beauty and grace." Anderson is famous for her role in the 90s sexy TV show Baywatch. But, today she's traded in her bathing suit for a pen to advocate for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
Melania's spokesperson Stephanie Grisham told CNN that the First Lady “does not wear fur.” Since Anderson sent out her tweet, multiple sources have confirmed that Melania began transitioning to a fur-free wardrobe years ago. Some of her favorite designers, like Ralph Lauren have banned fur from their collections.
PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews has also responded to the news by sending a message to Yahoo Style saying, “Melania first attended a PETA fashion show years ago that featured one of her favorite designers, Marc Bouwer, a longtime PETA supporter who uses no fur, leather or exotic skins in his collections. More recently, Pamela Anderson sent elegant Melania a stylish faux fur, as well as a video showing how animals are cruelly killed in the wild and on fur farms, so it’s no surprise that she is now fur-free, following in the footsteps of so many fashion icons and First Ladies.”
The faux-fur jacket was custom made and embroidered with the message "Only Me by pamela Anderson for Melania Trump."
Melania hasn't been seen wearing fur since 2011 when her and Donald attended the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center. The White House has not provided the exact date that FLOTUS ditched the real thing but many supporters are praising both Anderson and Melania for their recent exchange.
